Arlington Buries a Time Capsule and Plants a Signature Oak on November 6 |
The free 150th anniversary ceremony at Rotary Dream Park starts at 2 p.m., with a capsule set to open in 2126 |

Getting there and getting around
Parking is free, with a traffic circle at the front for drop-offs and accessible parking near the entrance. Elevators serve every floor, seating is placed throughout, and manual wheelchairs can be used at no charge. A limited number of free strollers are available; visit the info desk in the lobby or call (706) 685-5800 for details.
Service dogs and other trained service animals are welcome. Other pets are not allowed on the museum grounds.
Rules to know before you go
Outside food and drink are not permitted in the museum or the Giant Screen Theater, though the museum says it will accommodate dietary restrictions. A concessions stand at the Giant Screen Theater sells food and drinks.
Oversized bags and so-called smart bags are not allowed, and guns, knives, and pepper spray are prohibited. Staff run bag checks and wand scans at entry, so allow a few extra minutes. The museum describes itself as a family venue and bars clothing with profanity or language that demeans people.
Planning the rest of your trip
For ideas on what else to do in the area, Visit Columbus GA keeps a listing for the museum. You can reach the museum at (706) 685-5800.
Hours, special schedules, and policies can change, so confirm the details on the museum's official visit page before you go. |

Parking and getting thereThe park is at 100 E. Front St. The city says free parking is available throughout Downtown, including along Front Street, inside the 101 Center parking garage, and along Abram, Center, and Mesquite streets.
Confirm the time before you goThe city's announcement gives a 2 p.m. start at Rotary Dream Park, and the Parks, Recreation and Culture event listing shows the ceremony from 2 to 3 p.m. at the same park. One Arlington150.com listing's description still mentions Levitt Pavilion, so confirm with Arlington Parks, Recreation and Culture at 817-459-5474 before you go.
More anniversary events nearbyThe next morning, the anniversary calendar at Arlington150.com lists a Walktober Party on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Centennial Park, 2061 W. Green Oaks Blvd. Check that page for current details, since it is a separate listing from the tree-planting ceremony.
Plan to arrive a few minutes early, bring the family, and watch the oak go into the ground. |
