The University of Texas at Arlington's Central Library is turning its lower-level student space into a Halloween hangout this week. Halloween Night!!! It takes place Thursday, October 29, in The Basement, and the library calls it the space's second big event of the semester.

The celebration runs from 3 to 7 p.m. Central Time, according to the library's event listing. Trivia is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m., and the costume contest follows from 6 to 7 p.m., according to The Shorthorn, UTA's student newspaper, which reported those times on October 25.

What is planned

The library's listing names Undertale trivia, archery and candy prizes, "and more," but it does not give a minute-by-minute schedule.

The Shorthorn report fills in more. Halloween-themed trivia runs from 5 to 6 p.m., with questions drawn from horror games such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil. A costume contest follows from 6 to 7 p.m. and may run longer, depending on how many people sign up.

Trivia and costume contest winners receive prizes, including a stuffed Gengar and Five Nights at Freddy's plushies. The library's listing doesn't mention the costume contest, so that part depends on the student newspaper's reporting.

Costume contest sign-up

Anyone who wants to enter should sign up using the QR code posted near the stairs to The Basement before the contest begins, according to The Shorthorn.

Neither source says whether people who only want to play trivia need to sign up, so plan to ask a staff member when you arrive.

Who can go, and what it costs

The Shorthorn reports that admission is free. UTA Libraries' Creative Spaces events page says its workshops and events are open to UTA students, faculty and staff and are free unless noted. That page covers earlier events, and the Halloween listing itself doesn't say who can attend.

That matters for a city audience: nothing we found confirms the event is open to the general Arlington public. Residents without a UTA connection should check with the library before making the trip.

Before you go

The Basement is in the Central Library; the listing doesn't include a room number. The event page is the library's official source for the date and time. The Creative Spaces page also points people to The Basement's Discord server for updates and event registration.

Plan your outfit early if you want to compete, and arrive before 6 p.m. so there is time to scan the sign-up code.
